Sean Carpio

“Sean Carpio may be the finest drummer ever produced here” - The Irish Times

Born 1979 in Arequipa, Peru, and based in Dublin, Ireland, Sean Carpio is a multi-instrumentalist whose diverse practice incorporates song, sound and improvisation. Since 2005 he has been active as a soloist on drum-set in Europe and the USA, and to this date has featured on thirty recordings.

His work has featured in international galleries such as the Mattress Factory Pittsburgh, the MAC Belfast, IMMA Dublin, and the Serpentine Gallery London while also appearing at the Copenhagen Jazz Festival, Rochester Jazz Festival, and as featured artist at last year’s Galway Jazz Festival.

He has featured on thirty recordings to this date.

Although primarily working in collaborative projects (Mark Garry, Nina Hynes, Cian Nugent), Sean’s new EP Waves of the Present will be his first solo release predominantly written and performed by him; featuring songs inspired by ancestral affinity, sci-fi philosophy and the power of filial love.

Reflecting his eclectic background, the music on this record expresses Sean’s varied connections to jazz, Tropicalia, Japanese Doom, and Andean music; unifying them with his intuitive process of composing through improvisation and multi-instrumental overdubbing.
